Ethiopian runner Haile Gebrselassie smashes marathon record

Ethiopian runner Haile Gebrselassie, 34, who has 24th world record, won the men's competition of the 34th Berlin Marathonin Berlin Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007. Gebrselassie broke the marathon world record by clocking 2 hours, 4 minutes and 26 seconds. The two-time Olympic 10,000-meter champion was 29 seconds faster than the four-year-old mark of 2:04:55 set by Kenya's Paul Tergat, on the German capital's flat and fast course where six world records have been set.



Meet Rosalia Lombardo the "Sleepying Beauty"

Rosalia Lombardowas an Italian little girl who died in 1920 at age 2, and was the last human to be placed in Capuchin catacombsof Palermo. Her remains are in a small glass topped coffin on a marble pedestal in a small room of the Capuchin catacombs of Palermo in Palermo, Italy. Adelfa Volpes, 82, marries Reinaldo Waveqche, 24

This great honest love story from News shows that love knows no boundaries - especially when it comes to age......

Adelfa Volpes, who is 82, married 24-year-old Reinaldo Waveqchein Santa Fe, northern Argentina in a civil service after several years of engagement.

The bride was a friend of her young husband's mother, and has known him all his life. Their love blossomed when Reinaldo went to live with her after his mother's death when he was 15.

When she was asked if the marriage was purely spiritual, the new Mrs Waveqche laughed and said: "There's going to be more."

Reinaldo said he admired his elderly wife's zest for life and emphasised how special she was to him.

Tongue piercing nearly kills Des Moines woman - Lacey Filosa

A piece of jewelry the size of a safety pin nearly killed a young woman whose tongue piercing left her scared and scarred. It just an inch-long but it nearly put Lacey Filosa six feet underground. The 20-year-old said : "It almost killed me. I had my family see me hooked up to machines and wires because of this barbell."

According to New Express, the couple applied the Guinness World Records of the "shortest couple to get married" in the Guinness World Records' Guangdong office, soon after completing the pre-marriage health check.

The "shortest couple" will get married in a group wedding ceremony with 30 other couples and hoped to have the records certificate on the day of their wedding.

Tania Head the president of WTC 'Survivor's Network' faked her own story - Tania Head's incredible story

Tania Head'sstory began on September the 11th 2001 - it's an incredible story of her escape from one of the burning Twin Towers.

Ms Head, who become the president of a non-profit group called the World Trade Centre Survivors' Network, claimed to have been badly burned on the 78th floor of the south tower but was saved by a man who died trying to rescue others.

She also said another victim had handed her his inscribed wedding ring before he died, which she later returned to his widow. And she claimed her fiancé, died in the north tower. But no part of her incredible story has been verified :
The family and friends of the man to whom she claimed to be engaged say they have never heard of Tania Head and view the relationship she describes with the man, who truly died in the north tower, as an impossibility.

A spokeswoman for Merrill Lynch & Company, where she told people she worked at the time of the terror attack, said the company had no record of employing a Tania Head. [Quoted from The New York Times]



Alien sheep turned green at night!!!

A flock of 'sheep' has become a local attraction in a Romanian village after all 250 turned green at night. Cristinel Florea, owner of the sheep, in the village of Arsa from Constanta county, called the vet to see what was wrong with his animals.

The local vet took samples from the sheep wool and discovered they had all been treated with a solution of limestone.

The shepherd said: "A few of my sheep got sick one year ago, they got a sort of rash on their skin. I tried all sorts of treatments but nothing seemed to work. So I decided to use the limestone and all my sheep look like aliens now."

Vet Grigore Mertoiu said: "The poor animals turned all green during the night because it was a little chilly and they slept very close." [Quoted from Ananova]

Texas man - James Livingston's sues over stolen bone implanted in his neck


It's difficult to comprehend but investigators say a bone stolen from a cadaver was implanted in a 44-year-old North Texas man - James Livingston'sneck. The patient of Weatherford is going to sue the medical technology company and several tissue processing businesses.

Livingston said : "How can you sell parts out of a body, just like parts from a stolen car? It was very surreal. At first I asked them if they wanted the bone back. It wasn't really an option, given it was grafted into my other neck bones."

Timaru speedskater Nicole Begg to strip for Playboy magazine

Inline skater Nicole Begg, 19, who has made headlines previously by posing nude in a bid to raise the profile of the sport and attract a sponsor, is now set to appear in Playboymagazine.

The magazine's picture editor Matt Steigbigelsaid the magazine was preparing its annual pop culture feature 'News in Review' feature for the January edition and would like to use one or two pictures of Nicole.

The inline skating 10,000-metre points elimination race world champion has shed her clothes and appeared on the front page of The Timaru Herald in April after becoming frustrated at a lack of recognition back home. It proved an inspired decision with her images proving an instant hit around the world.

Nicole's skating career continues to go well. The Kiwi picked up a second world title in Colombia recently and won her second inline race of the season in Germany last week. And now she is set to further her modelling career after agreeing to let the photos be used only in the United States edition of Playboy magazine.



Rare two-headed red slider turtle on display at Big Al's Aquarium Supercenter

An extremely rare two-headed red slider turtle is seen at the Big Al's Aquarium Supercenter, in East Norriton Pa., Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2007. The yet-to-be-named rare turtle is on display at the store. It has two heads on opposite sides of its shell, four front legs, two back legs and a combined tail.

Big Al's told NBC 10 they got the turtle from a collector in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., over the weekend. He said it's not some kind of genetic experiment or reptile that grew up downstream from a nuclear power plant. It's just one of those rare, one-in-a-million freaks of nature. [Quoted from NBC 10]
