Al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden appeared for the first time in three years in a videotape Friday released ahead of the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on New York and Washington that killed nearly 3,000 people.

In the new videotape - about 30 minutes long, Osama bin Ladenapparently says there are two ways to end the Iraq war. The first is from our side, and it is to continue to escalate the killing and fighting against you. The second is to do away with the American democratic system of government. "To conclude," bin Laden says, "I invite you to embrace Islam."

According to a US official, the "US most wanted terrorist" did not make any overt threats against the West in the videotape.
