Ethiopian runner Haile Gebrselassie smashes marathon record

Ethiopian runner Haile Gebrselassie, 34, who has 24th world record, won the men's competition of the 34th Berlin Marathonin Berlin Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007. Gebrselassie broke the marathon world record by clocking 2 hours, 4 minutes and 26 seconds. The two-time Olympic 10,000-meter champion was 29 seconds faster than the four-year-old mark of 2:04:55 set by Kenya's Paul Tergat, on the German capital's flat and fast course where six world records have been set.
