A tiny butterfly discovered in Shaanxi Province, was recently confirmed as the world's smallest butterfly on Monday, Aug. 27, 2007. The world's smallest butterfly, named Tongeia minima Shou et Yuan [ 小玄灰蝶] has a wingspan of 12 - 17 mm. It was found by Chinese butterfly expert, Shou Jianxin
in 2002.
