Mae Christina Astley, 25, a British woman beat odds of one in 200 million and gave birth to identical triplets. She had three girls called Amy, Kim and Zoe by Caesarean section at Feldkirch State Hospital in Western Austria on Monday.
Their father, Thomas Graziadei, 27, said that I don't know how we're going to tell them apart when they haven't got their hospital wrist bands on.
The babies were conceived naturally and delivered prematurely (32 weeks), each weighing 3.3lb, and are under surveillance in the hospital's intensive care unit.
Dr Peter Schwarzler, who delivered the girls four weeks' prematurely, said he expected them to be fine.
Identical triplets are extremely rare because it means the original fertilised egg split and then one of the resulting cells split again. Link
