Threemates from Queensland have successfully completed a three-day sailing trip down the Brisbane River in a boat made entirely of beer cans.
The trio set off from Karalee, southwest of Brisbane on Friday and this afternoon reached the mouth of the river, all to raise funds for the fight against Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
Speaking on the banks of the river in Brisbane today, skipper Brad Gillam, from Toowoomba, said the boat was originally a creative recycling project.
Since launching on Friday, the beer can boat has made frequent stops to collect donations from well wishers on the riverbank.
Mr Gillam, Rob Meharg and Chris Taylor hope their efforts will allow them to donate up to $200,000 to the Sids and Kids Queensland charity organisation.
The boat is made with 8000 empty cans, as well as a fair share of silicon and plywood.
